Howell Kline Surveying, LLC works with clients to facilitate retrofit of industrial spaces to accommodate new uses.

In one instance Howell Kline Surveying worked with steel fabricators JGM, Inc. of Downingtown Pa., who had a client in the Lehigh Valley that wanted to fit a second story mezzanine inside an existing 600,000 square foot warehouse. The mezzanine, encompassing 150,000 square feet, would ultimately be outfitted with material handling / distribution equipment to support the client's national merchandise distribution system.
The mezzanine had to be tied into the existing support columns of the warehouse, and this is where Howell Kline Surveying came in. Using a reflectorless robotic total station and a one man crew all columns were located in three dimensions. This involved obtaining accurate measurements to 78 steel I-beam columns spread out over 150,000 square feet (nearly 3 ½ acres). Elevations were obtained at floor level and at a specified distance above floor level equal to the elevation of the proposed mezzanine. This information was drafted in AutoCAD Civil 3D and a plan was prepared that contained all the information to allowed JGM, Inc. to accurately fabricate the steel for the mezzanine to fit neatly into place.
On another project Howell Kline surveying worked with a Pottstown, Pa. machine shop / metal fabricator to install equipment in a recently renovated 1880's era industrial building. The machinery was a large piece of equipment with various component parts that ran on two parallel tracks. These tracks had to be installed to very strict horizontal and vertical tolerances. Utilizing an electronic total station, differential level and 200' steel tape Howell Kline's two man crew established the required base line and laid out the offset lines that defined the tracks. As the installation progressed Howell Kline's field crew returned to monitor the installation and verify that the tracks met the rigid tolerances.

In both instances Howell Kline Surveying was able to tailor a survey solution that met our client's needs and help them realize their goals. We encourage you to contact Howell Kline Surveying and let us help you with your surveying needs.
