What you need to know about the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design
On March 15, 2012 All new development projects and some existing developments will be required to comply with the new 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design.
For new projects there have been several changes to the requirements including accessible routes and ramp design. D.L Howell has stayed current on these changes and we are implementing them in all new projects.
- If your answer is YES than you do not need to comply with the new regulations, with some notable exceptions.
- If your answer is NO than you might be required to remediate your non-compliance.
- If you are not sure, contact D.L. Howell & Associates today.
If you are making alterations to your existing building you may be required to spend 20% of the project costs on bringing portions of the property into compliance with ADA Standards.
The 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design is not the only regulation on Accessible Design. Depending on the type of property you may also be required to comply the Fair Housing Act, PA Uniform Construction Code, International Building Code, ABA, PennDOT and others.
Lawsuits for non-compliant sites are on the rise.
