PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

D.L. Howell was hired by the Delaware County Christian School (DCCS) to provide Civil Engineering design for a site previously occupied by the Episcopal Academy located at 905 S. Waterloo Road. The DCCS was looking to move their elementary school from Newtown Square to this 24 acre campus situated in a wooded site along the Darby Creek in Devon. In order to develop the site to meet the school’s requirements DL Howell worked with the attorney to obtain a Zoning Variance for additional impervious coverage. This allowed the school to construct a parking lot, bus loop and drop-off area out front and a paved play area with play equipment in the rear yard. DL Howell worked with the Township and Conservation District to obtain the permitting necessary to compensate for the increase in impervious coverage while protecting the environmentally sensitive areas. DL Howell also designed underground stormwater management and infiltration systems to recharge the ground water resulting in no additional run-off from the site. DL Howell also worked with the DCCS and ELA Group to develop an overall plan for sports fields and most recently a walking trail and outdoor pool that supports the school’s summer camp program.

The most challenging aspects of this project were: obtaining a Zoning Variance from Easttown Township, NPDES Permitting from the State and County for earth disturbances over 1 acre and detailed design of underground stormwater management and infiltration systems.
