Delaware County Recorder of Deeds
The Recorder of Deeds was an elected post before the advent of the Home Rule Charter. Under the direction of Thomas J. Judge, Sr., The Recorder of Deeds processes and preserves records relating to real property dating back to the year1789, the year Delaware County was founded. All records are preserved on microfilm, which is developed and put into fiche cards. Some 79,000 new documents were processed in 1996, leading to collection and distribution of $26.1 million in Transfer Taxes, earning $1.9 million in fees and commissions for the County of Delaware as revenue. As well as $496,321 for Affordable Housing.
In January 1987 The Recorder of Deeds Office converted to an on-line computer system with the Data Processing department. The new system provides the residents of Delaware County, title companies and attorneys an up-dated system of retrieving real estate data from January 1982 to date.
